LaLiga heavyweight preparing Tottenham raid in move that’ll saddle Man Utd with unwanted star
A Spanish powerhouse will forego signing a Man Utd star in favour of raiding Tottenham for a player Antonio Conte may well be on board with selling, per a report.
It’s been a strange old season over at Sevilla thus far. The Spanish powerhouse have become synonymous with challenging for a top four finish in LaLiga and lifting more than their fair share of Europa Leagues.
However, they remarkably sat 19th in the table as recently as January 14. Thankfully for those concerned, three wins from their next seven have pushed Sevilla out of the relegation zone and up to 14th.
Showing that some things never change, they recently booked their place in the Europa League Last 16 after sinking PSV Eindhoven in the play-off round.
Among the most disappointing performers at Sevilla this season has been Man Utd loanee, Alex Telles.
The Brazilian has split time with aging Argentina Marcos Acuna at left-back. Telles recently missed a month and a half with a knee injury, though when fit, has not been pulling up trees.
Now, a report out of Spain (via Football Espana), has reported Sevilla will be in the market for a new left-back at season’s end.
Telles’ loan from Man Utd does not contain an option to buy. However, the Manchester Evening News recently reported Telles is among a trio bought for £153m who have been put up for sale by the Red Devils.
The Spanish report reckons Sevilla could secure a permanent deal from scratch if they’re willing to stump up just €10m. But per the article, Telles’ patchy form will see them explore a Tottenham raid instead.
Sergio Reguilon – also currently on loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid – is the man in their sights.
Tottenham raid to saddle Ten Hag with Telles
Like Telles, Reguilon’s loan doesn’t contain an option to buy. Even if it did, Diego Simeone’s apparent unhappiness with the player would likely ensure it wouldn’t have been triggered when the season concludes anyway.
The 26-year-old will therefore return to north London at season’s end, though perhaps won’t remain there for long.
Antonio Conte can already call upon Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies for the left wing-back role. As such, given Reguilon was the one earmarked for an exit this season, logic would dictate he’ll be axed once again next time around.
Sevilla are understood to be mulling a move for Reguilon who is a personal target of sporting director Monchi. Reguilon also previously played in Seville while on loan from Real Madrid in the 2019-20 campaign.
Monchi will reportedly ‘do everything he can’ to sign Reguilon ‘at a low price’. Conversely, Tottenham will obviously do everything they can to generate as much as possible from the potential permanent exit.
In the event common ground is found, Reguilon would move to Seville and any faint hopes Telles had of earning an outright switch back to Spain will be dashed.
Telles will therefore return to Old Trafford and become the elephant in the room at left-back. Erik ten Hag already has two fine options in the form of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Academy graduate, Brandon Williams, is also champing at the bit for more game-time.
