About Middlesbrough

Frequently referred to simply as Boro, the team was founded in 1876. Playing in red, Boro have been based at the Riverside Stadium since moving there in 1995. Prior to that they spent close to a century at Ayresome Park. Over the course of their illustrious history, Middlesbrough have claimed just one significant piece of silverware - they won the 2003/04 League Cup when they beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Joseph-Desire Job and Bolo Zenden were the scorers on the day while Steve McClaren was the manager.

Aside from their win in the League Cup, Boro boast a highest league finish of seventh in the top flight back in the season of 2004/05. That result was also under the guidance of McClaren, who would later go on to manage England. Other managers who have spent successful periods at the helm of the club include Aitor Karanka, Bryan Robson, Bruce Rioch, Stan Anderson and Bob Dennison.

Meanwhile when it comes to chronicling the great players who have represented the club, names that surface include the likes of current England boss Gareth Southgate, Juninho, Wilf Mannion, Brian Clough, Tony Mowbray, Willie Maddren and Mark Schwarzer.
