Real Madrid pay inflated price to beat Liverpool to goalkeeper deal

Real Madrid have reportedly pinched teenage goalkeeper Andriy Lunin from under the noses of Liverpool.

The 19-year-old Zorya Luhansk goalkeeper, who has kept 20 clean sheets in 51 matches over two seasons, is heading to Real, according to Marca.

The European champions will pay €14million, who will join  Julen Lopetegui’s side for pre-season.

The Daily Mirror claimed last month that Liverpool “want Lunin to be their new No.3 keeper” and they were hoping to wrap up a deal for the stopper.

Arsenal, Leicester and Watford were also believed to be tracking the player, who has earned rave reviews in the Ukrainian top flight.

One of the player’s representatives in May claimed the player was attracting interest and would not be sold for less than €5/6million, but his price has risen dramatically.

Irakly Hvedeliani, told Football-Ua: “The first real interest for Lunin was at the end of 2017 when scouts of Salzburg came to watch him.

“They offered €600.000 but the offer was rejected by Zorya. After that I was called bu Kaladze’s former collaborator, Lorenzo Bedin. He invited me and the other representatives of the player to talk in Turin but the meeting has never taken place. Lunin didn’t want to meet Juve chiefs without the agreement of Zorya.

“I know nothing about the interest of Inter. Zorya’s director of football Sergej Rafilov is very experienced. He is not going to sell the player for just €1 or 2million. They’ll make the player leave for like €5/6million, not less.”
