Three Arsenal Invincibles join Spotify owner in exciting bid to oust Kroenke

The billionaire owner of Spotify, along with the aid of three Arsenal Invincibles, is bidding to buy the Gunners from under-fire American owner Stan Kroenke.

Last week Daniel Ek, an Arsenal fan, signalled his interest in buying the Gunners. In a message posted on Twitter, Ek said: “As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for @Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I’d be happy to throw my hat in the ring.”

And now, according to the Daily Telegraph, Ek has teamed up with Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira to wrestle control from Kroenke Sports and Entertainment.

Arsenal’s ownership has been attacked in light of the club’s plans to join the European Super League. The club, like the five other Premier League participants, were quick to back out of the deal. The new competition was met with fierce criticism.

More than 1000 Arsenal fans protested on Friday at The Emirates before the Premier League clash with Everton.

The protestors called for Kroenke to leave the club. However, a statement last week suggested anything but.

Josh Kroenke ruled out a sale an online Q&A session.

Josh Kroenke said: “We will rebuild. We believe we are fit to go forward with Arsenal football club.

“We were put in a difficult situation by sources outside the club.

“I want to get back to London, I want to do this. I am aware we never had trust, we need to build a bridge, we will.

“We have big plans to invest, we have plans, we want to be great again. But a long-term model does not support long-term high investment. We have no intention of selling.

Ek though looks set to test the resolve of KSE and “is set to make a formal offer to buy the club from Kroenke”.

The Swedish entrepreneur is worth £3.4bn, according to Forbes, while his Spotify music streaming service valued at £51.9bn.

Arsenal valued at in excess of £1.5bn

There’s no doubt he has the funds to underpin a purchase of the the club and with three of the 2003/04 Invincible team on board will have the fans on side immediately.

The report claims Henry, Bergkamp and Vieira “could all return to Arsenal to be part of the new set-up”.

Henry has been critical of the club under Kroenke.

“I do not recognise my club and what happened just now, with them trying to join a league that would have been closed, makes no sense to me,” Henry told the Telegraph.

Sky Sports have also reported that Ek has teamed up with the three Arsenal legends to get a deal done. No price has been mentioned, but in 2018 the club were valued at £1.65bn. That’s after Alisher Usmanov agreed to sell his 30% stake to Kroenke for £550m.
