Transfer Gossip: Arsenal ready to launch bid but Man Utd lurk too for Celtic midfielder; Everton make approach for Brazilian playmaker
Arsenal face competition from Manchester United and Newcastle for Celtic star Matt O’Riley, Tottenham are on the brink of moving out two unwanted stars, while Monday’s Transfer Gossip claims Everton have made a move to sign a Brazilian attacker.
MATT O’RILEY HAS INTEREST FROM ARSENAL AND MAN UTD
Arsenal are readying a bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley – but they could soon face competition from Manchester United.
The midfielder has made a massive impact north of the border since arriving in January for just £1.5m. That fee they paid MK Dons looks set to earn the Hoops a massive and significant profit though if a move to the Premier League emerges.
Indeed, as per The Sun, both Arsenal and United are weighing up moves that could cost as much as £20m. That could see Ange Postecoglou’s side made an incredible profit on their investment just a matter of seven months later.
The Scottish champions reportedly value O’Riley, 21, at around £15m – but a bidding war between the two Premier League giants could push his sale through to £20m.
And it’s reported that Liverpool, Leicester, Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the midfielder.
He still has four years remaining on his deal so Celtic are well within their right to ask such a hefty fee.
And while ESPN reckon a move to Leicester or Newcastle looks most likely, reports indicate it is Arsenal planning a move.
O’Riley was in action on Sunday as Celtic recorded a 9-0 thumping of Dundee United at Tannadice, providing two assists in the game.
O’Riley was born in Hounslow, London, but has represented Denmark’s U21s at international level. He is eligible to play for the Danes through his mother’s side of the family.
The midfielder also has a huge admirer in Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish, who describes O’Riley as a “proper player”.
EVERTON MAKE APPROACH FOR MATHEUS PEREIRA
Everton have reportedly made a firm offer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for Matheus Pereira.
The Brazilian made his name during an impressive two-year stint at West Brom. He managed 11 goals in 33 Premier League games for the Baggies, though could not halt their relegation to the second tier.
His performances earned links with the likes of Manchester United. However, he ultimately left West Brom to sign for the Gulf State side.
However, the Daily Mirror reckons a move back to the Premier League is on the cards as Everton look to strengthen their squad.
Frank Lampard’s side are considering the sale of Anthony Gordon to Chelsea, with that deal set to earn them £25m and two Chelsea stars in return.
Leicester are also keen, but it is the Toffees leading the way.
Pereira scored 20 goals, adding a further 26 assists during his 77 appearances at West Brom.
TOTTENHAM PAIR CLOSING ON LOAN EXITS
Tottenham are poised to wave farewell to two more players this week with Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon closing on loan exits.
Winks has found himself way down the pecking order at Spurs under Antonio Conte. As such, he needs a move to kickstart his career.
Indeed, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp are all ahead on him under the Italian.
Winks was hoping to remain in England but a lack of interest means Sampdoria now looks like his best bet.
The move between the clubs is now agreed, with Winks travelling to Genoa over the weekend to finalise the deal.
Barring no late hiccups, he will be presented as a Samp player in the coming days.
He’ll be joined out the Tottenham exit door by Reguilon, who is closing on a move to Atletico Madrid.
Reguilon will switch to Atleti as a replacement for Renan Lodi. The Brazilian is likely to sign for Nottingham Forest in the coming days on an initial loan.
Diego Simeone’s side will also take Reguilon back to LaLiga on an initial loan deal. And that will become permanent if he impresses at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Spurs are reportedly hoping to sign Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, 19 this week. The teenager, though, is also reportedly on on Crystal Palace and Chelsea’s radars too.
